What is the Social Connection Befriending Scheme?
Through befriending relationships, the Social Connection Project supports people moving away from homelessness in overcoming social barriers, isolation and loneliness. Volunteers are matched with people who have experienced homelessness and do various activities together, such as going for a walk, going for coffee, or accompanying them to an event - anything you both fancy!
What we’re looking for in a volunteer
We’re looking for non-judgmental,reliable, patient, and flexible volunteers. The project is flexible, but we expect you to meet for one houronce aweek for at least six months.
Volunteer support
There will be a loose pathway to follow that you will develop alongside our friendly Project Coordinator, Si, and the person you are matched with. All volunteers will be trained and can access support via monthly 1-1 supervision, reflective practice sessions, and volunteer socials.
New Volunteer Training
The training program will provide new volunteers with training. This includes self-learning via online learning and two one-and-a-half-hour in-person training sessions. The training will be between 11 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.
These sessions will be on Saturdays, February 8th and 15th, 2025, and you are expected to attend both sessions.
