Services open this Christmas and other useful info!

Yesterday we had our final Frontline Workers Meet Up of the year. We heard from four different local services and then had a time of networking, asking questions and finding out more about these services.We also gathered some info for services open to those who are homeless inBrighton & Hove this Christmas and made this list Services open at Christmas List and also found this really helpful list from MIND, and here is the details of Pavilions substance misuse service opening times Xmas 2017 Resource booklet latestTara McClure from the Trailblazer team at Brighton and Hove City Council shared first about their early intervention programme. They work with people who might be vulnerable to becoming homeless to try and help them maintain their tenancies. They work closely with local charities, statutory projects and private landlords and agencies as well as doing homeless prevention workshops in schools. We then heard from Roland Williams from Southdown Housing and their Southdown Support project (formerly Community Connections and Community Links). They also work with people to help them to sustain their tenancies, working with the Trailblazer team but they will also work with people in crisis situations, who might be struggling with substance misuse, mental health difficulties or coming out of a domestic violence situation. They are a floating support service, and referrals can be made in person or by a supporting professional, more details about referrals here.Suzie and Berry from Brighton & Hove Young People's Outreach Service (BHYPOS) also talked about their service for Under 25's and are keen to take more referrals. More info here BHYPOS info for HG website 28.11.17Anna Muten from BHT spoke about their Accommodation for Work project, which offers temporary shared accommodation to people who are homeless and support with work and learning. Each resident has a key worker, who works with them to develop an individual employment plan which focuses on skills, training requirements and employment goals. More details about their referrals can be found here.Sue Brown from Albion in the Community shared about their Speak Up Against CancerProject which aims to raise awareness around the early signs of cancer, as catching the early symptoms hugely increase the chances of cure. They are keen to being working with more projects that are working with people who are homeless or vulnerably housed.Finally we heard from Amy Goodwin from Justlife who is in charge of the Justlife Studio opening in January in the Open Market. The studio is for any artist who has or is experiencing homelessness or for any artist who is passionate about coming alongside those who are homeless. There will be exhibitions, workshops and skills sharing sessions, if you want to find out more get in touch with Amy or visit the Facebook pageWe also shared ideas for future training sessions, these ideas included looking at when mental health needs coincide with drug addiction and what to do, training on chem sex, and how to share client / service user data between services safely.
