Engaging with Frank in a holistic manner allowed him to find the support he needed.
Frank asked if Justlife could support him to find alternative housing options. In the sessions that followed, he gradually developed a trusting relationship with the project worker. He shared some of the traumas that he had experienced since being a baby. He also shared the things that bring him joy and his dream to learn to drive, get a car and drive to the beach.
A major turning point came when Frank was threatened and attacked with a metal bar by one of the people living in the B&B accommodation. He knew that he wanted out and told staff at Justlife that he couldn’t cope living like this anymore.
Through the strong links that Justlife has with Manchester Homeless Mental Health Team Frank was linked up with the Community Psychiatric Nurse. Engaging with Frank in a holistic manner allowed him to find the support he needed. With positive steps being taken, support in place and rent arrears being addressed, Frank’s case to access supported accommodation was strong.
After an initial knock back, Frank eventually secured a place with Nacro and is building towards the fulfilling independent future he dreamed of. Throughout his time with Justlife, Frank has played an important role in the research that Justlife is conducting into unsupported temporary accommodation. He continues to make a valuable contribution in giving a voice to the hidden homeless.’
