We are excited to launch a new guide for women experiencing homelessness and moving into settled accommodation, co-created by women, for women.

The guide emerged from a community research project in Brighton & Hove, exploring the barriers women face in accessing mental health and other support services. The individuals who took part told us it was often hard to know what help was available and that having everything in one place would make a real difference. As a result, this guide was co-designed, drawing on services suggested by the women themselves, the project team, and local professionals.

“Support, information, empathy, and financial aid, but you can’t get them.”

This resource brings together details of local services across Brighton & Hove, designed to help women access the support they need. It also serves as a practical tool for organisations and professionals who want to share information with individuals using their services.

“If the information was there… this is where other people are, this is where the other women are, this is where support is. If all of those things were given to you by whoever it is that’s moving you — the council or whatever housing system it is — it’s like a welcome pack. This is Brighton.”

The guide is designed to walk you through every stage of your journey, from accessing urgent support services at the point of homelessness to finding practical and independent community and well-being support once in settled accommodation.

What makes this guide unique is its human-centred approach. It features the voices of women who took part in the research and explains why certain services were included, giving insight into the experiences and needs of women in the community.

“Women to be told exactly what’s available, ideally, everything in one place, as early as possible in the process.”

Published in 2025, this first edition is a comprehensive and accessible resource for women and the organisations that support them, helping to navigate the complex landscape of homelessness and mental health services, including those that are often less visible.

You can read the guide here.
