Making a Difference in 2019 - Changing the System

Lots of people found 2018 gruelling, particularly working in a sector that relies on hope and connection to improve things for those most vulnerable in our society. At Justlife, one of our resolutions is to continue to push forward to challenge and change the system so that it works for the people who rely on it most. We’re focussing on unsupported temporary accommodation, an area of housing that is comparatively unknown and which sits in the shadows of the private rented sector (have a look at our UTAG:N Strategy for more information).

Right now, the housing and homelessness system which so many rely on is frozen, by a combination of the struggle at national level to pass legislation, the local impact of cuts, uncertainty over Brexit and a national shortage of housing. We know that people are being left behind, workers are disillusioned, and individuals are still experiencing shocking and harmful conditions in unsupported temporary accommodation.

While we know things aren’t easy, we are tenaciously pursuing new ways to change things for the better. We want to ensure that not one person or family is left hidden or ignored in UTA, and all stays in UTA are as short, safe and healthy as possible. We are setting up a network of action groups across England who are developing new ways of working and putting them into action, using local skills and expertise to tackle challenges in their area.

We’d love you to join us by getting involved in our UTAG Network. Together we can unlock the system and restore the voices of the disenfranchised and forgotten.

Resolve to change the world for the better in 2019.

And if you don’t think you’re the right person to be involved, maybe you know someone who does. Pass on the message, keep it moving, and we can change lives this year.
