When it comes to working with people there is never a 'one size fits all' answer to the situations people find themselves in. At Justlife we work to try and engage people around what they enjoy and what their skills and interests are. If you think about your own life, it is most likely that it’s the people who have known you best who have been able to help you the most, as they know what you need. Some small examples of this kind of work are when one of the team takes someone they are working with to pet the dogs at the RSPCA, others go to the farm to have some time outside or paint in our Creative Studio. With one of my clients we are both reading the same books, to have a shared interest and shared experiences with people means you are able to form a closer bond and really understand who they are and what makes them tick.Of course this kind of work is a luxury, with deadlines and big caseloads support workers often don't have the freedom to do such work. And of course sometimes our clients are just too unwell to engage with such activities, but where possible this kind of work can make all the difference to someone’s life.
