Last week Harriet, who has been providing administrative support for Justlife in Brighton over the past year, supported one of our clients to attend a course and here is how it went.Last week I accompanied one of our clients, Rodney*, to a Money Matters course at The Bridge, in Moulescombe, East Brighton. The Bridge is a charity that offers advice, support and ways to learn - through courses, workshops and one-to-one sessions. We had a really warm welcome when we got there and the session started off with us watching a video from Sussex Police about fraud and the scams that people can fall into - it was a real eye-opener!Rodney has just moved into his own flat, which was a real success but he highlighted to us the fact he was not confident in how to manage his money now he had more responsibilities. In the class we discussed our spending habits - are you a ‘see it and buy it’ person or ‘got to get that two-for-one’ kind of person?! Going through our income and outgoings was helpful as it was interesting to see how many times we thought we had finished and then remembered another regular expense that we had forgotten to put in!Jenny our teacher recommended The Money Advice Service, a free website where you can take a Money Health Check quiz and then use their budget planner to plan how to spend and save money. She also offers one-to-one sessions for those wanting to spend a little more time looking at their finances.Hopefully Rodney found the course useful, I certainly did!
