Justlife service users ask tough questions

Monday morning headlines brought with them David Cameron’s promise of 1 million newly built homes by 2020. Being homeless, this initially sounded great to many Justlife service users in Manchester. However, as we began to look closer during the drop-in, we realised that this promise would not benefit us in any way.David Cameron was promising to ensure councils and housing associations would build 1 million new homes that would be put up for sale at affordable prices by 2020. This was not a promise to provide more social housing for the growing number of homeless households in England.Frustration motivated a group of service users at the Manchester Centre to write their local MP, Lucy Powell, and ask her what her thoughts were in response to this policy promise. Lucy Powell MP had visited the Justlife centre in Manchester during the election and spoke with many of the service users which has led to a feeling that we can continue the conversation in this way. Our letter can be found below and we look forward to hearing her response. This is just one of the many ways that Justlife is seeking to empower service users to: take control of their lives, have their voices heard and play a positive role in society.LETTER TO LUCY POWELL
