In the weekly Manchester Justlife Job Club we identified that IT literacy levels were extremely low, so we decided to do something to tackle this. After some investigations with our service users and across Manchester we found that there was a need for a basic introductory IT course. So, we secured a small pot of funding and started up.We have just successfully finished our 4th IT for Jobs course. Yesterday, the latest group took a celebratory trip to Manchester's Central Library, following completion of the course. They all joined the library and enjoyed looking around the facilities, taking a special interest in the IT suites!Sarah Todd, IT teacher said: "IT literacy is something that we often take for granted. So much of the world is cut off from people who cannot use computers and the internet. It is always a privilege to see people learn new IT skills and grow in confidence too. IT skills are especially useful in applying for work and we are delighted that yesterday one of the participants was offered a job - from an application that he had completed online. He starts next week!"
