Taking advantage of being situated right by an ocean, this Summer, Justlife Brighton has set up a Fishing Club. The club has been established in partnership with Equinox, an agency working with homeless adults in the city. The Fishing Club really is something that service users can take really ownership over, with planning meetings between each trip, at the cascade recovery cafe. There is an opportunity for service users to choose where they would like to go and more experienced fishermen (and women) share their knowledge with those less experienced – including the fishing-novice project workers. The club, coordinated by Tom – Justlife project worker, has had one successful trip so far. Although no fish were caught, a good time was had by all. The second trip is to Shoreham harbour on Tuesday the 23rd of June.We are hoping that the club grows and that skills are learnt, service users step up to lead, communities are created and friendships are made (As well as catching some fish!).We are all looking forward to a summer of fishing and that the club ‘catches’ on with service users.
