Iesha is studying Social Policy at Salford University and decided to do something a bit different in her final year by volunteering at Justlife Manchester..."I'm in my 3rd and final year of my BSc Social Policy degree at Salford University. For my final year I could either do a traditional dissertation or indepth project alongside a community placement.I decided to do the community placement and I wanted to focus on the policy issues surrounding homelessness such as substance misuse, employability, state welfare and housing (local authority and private).Justlife Manchester was ideally situated to for me to work with and base my studies on. The team at Justlife have been extremely welcoming, and made me feel at home from the moment I had my interview. The service users are great and despite the issues they face they never fail to smile and have a laugh with the staff and each other.I volunteer with Justlife on a Monday and through my placement at Justlife I get to see how the policies that I am investigating affect the service users on the front line, rather than just how central government suggests it affects them. This frontline experience is enabling me to discuss potential suggestions for policy improvement in my project."(Pic: Iesha volunteering at the Justlife Jobclub).
