The role of this Health Engagement Worker will involve supporting the work of the Viral Hepatitis Operational Delivery Network (ODN) which is responsible for delivering Hepatology (liver medicine) across the county. One of their priorities is to eliminate hepatitis C in Sussex by 2025 through the use of revolutionary direct acting treatments. The Sussex ODN have been awarded funding for an exciting 12-month pilot to expand services to the community and aims to reach clients who are homeless, hepatitis C, alcohol dependent or diabetic to access liver screening in the community.
This role involves managing a caseload of clients to enable them to access liver screening in the community, helping to ensure that those whose scan has identified serious conditions such as liver cirrhosis are referred for a follow up ultrasound scan and any other follow up appointments.
The role requires the use of specialist knowledge and relationship skills to influence service users with varying degrees of mental health, addiction and trauma related issues to engage with health services. This will include advocacy in registering them for medical services and accompanying them to appointments; assisting them in addressing all aspects of physical and mental health or substance addiction needs, as well as advocating or them to get access to source housing and welfare benefits. Working collaboratively with our partners Arch Healthcare the role is dependent on good communication and joint working with a variety of partners and professionals.
