Our people are extremely important to Justlife and key to making the biggest impact with the resources we have. We recruit the most talented and well suited people into Justlife. We aim to develop those people during the time they work for us; always ensuring our staff are effective and efficient. It is important to us that our staff are happy, motivated, cared for and developed and in return we trust that every individual involved with Justlife will embody the positive culture and values which we aspire to.

Directors

Justlife is managed by a board of trustees with diverse experience in voluntary, public and private sectors. The board has a strong track record of creating innovative, sustainable community projects.

Gary Bishop

Chief Executive Officer of Justlife and Director of Justlife CIC

Gary Bishop 4Gary has worked in Voluntary Sector leadership for over twenty years and has extensive experience of leadership at operational, management and strategic levels. Starting out as a youth worker in Brighton he studied Youth and Community studies with the University of Wales before moving to Manchester in 2000. From 2000 – 2007 he was the leader of a pioneering community project in Openshaw, East Manchester where he gained unique insights into urban communities and the complex issues facing communities affected by deprivation From February 2007 -2009 Gary provided strategic support to an international charity helping them to develop community projects in North West England and also worked as an Associate of The Cooperative College where he regularly delivers CMI accredited leadership training to third sector leaders. In December 2008 Gary was awarded the Independent Newspaper Scholarship to study for and MBA at Durham Business School. He has also recently been providing consultancy services to PCTs, housing associations and Social Enterprises in Hastings, London, Leeds and Blackburn.

Steve Coles

Chair of the Board for Justlife Foundation

stevecolesSteve works extensively in the field of social enterprise and social impact. He is the Managing Director of Intentionality CIC, a social impact measurement consultancy, and was formerly the Social Enterprise Development Manager for The Salvation Army across the UK. He has held charity board positions, is a Fellow of the RSA and a member of the RSA’s Fellowship Council. Steve is married with two young boys.

Gretta Starks

Company Secretary for Justlife CIC and Justlife Foundation

grettastarksGretta moved to east Manchester ten years ago, initially working in the third sector for a community organisation based in east Manchester and a large co-operative.  She moved into project management, working on major regeneration and construction projects across the North West and in Northern Ireland. Gretta was one of the founding directors of Justlife. She volunteers with charities and local organisations in a number of roles, including having served as a governor at two primary schools in east Manchester.

Laura Neilson

Director of Justlife Foundation

lauraneilsonLaura Neilson has lived and worked within deprived communities since 2003. She is passionate social justice and out of this desire set up Hope Citadel Healthcare, a social enterprise providing NHS GP services in Greater Manchester. She is also a junior doctor working in a local hospital.

Helen Waterhouse

Director of Justlife Foundation

HelenbulloughHelen was the Head of NW Region for the Big Lottery Fund, the largest UK lottery distributor, for 8 years, having previously managed a grant assessment and management team. She was one of 9 regional Heads across England, that led a small regional team gathering regional intelligence through research and stakeholder engagement, to feed into investment design and decision making. She was also responsible for all of the communications and public affairs work in the region.

During her time at Big Lottery Fund, Helen worked on a range of projects including the outcome based funding approach,  designing and delivering training, organisational restructure and the development of a new funding management system.

Previously Helen worked for North & Mid Cheshire Training and Enterprise Council where she was responsible for Open Learning, Service Development and Economic Research. During this time she was also a Board member for the British Association for Open Learning and a consultant for the then Department for Education and Employment.

Hannah Clark

Director of Justlife CIC and Justlife Foundation

HannahreevesHannah has worked in the housing sector since 2005 and is currently Regional Manager for Great Places Housing Group, Manchester Region – involved in developing and managing affordable housing and community support projects across the North West. As well as a First class degree in Business (Liverpool, 2003) she has a Distinction PGDip in Housing Practice (Salford, 2007) and is a fully qualified corporate member of the Chartered Institute of Housing. Hannah lives in Openshaw, close to the Manchester Justlife centre, is an active member of Openshaw Community Church and is passionate about urban mission and community transformation.

Hannah Bishop

hannahbishopHannah is a registered nurse and is a founding director of Justlife.  Her main employment is as a practice nurse at Brighton Homeless Healthcare. Whilst in Manchester she was seconded part time to work at the Justlife Health and Enterprise Centre providing health promotion, advice and treatment. Hannah has been iinvolved in setting up the Brighton drop-in services.
